SafeSport Committee

What is Safesport

USA Hockey, MN Hockey and WAYHA adhere to the rules regarding the US Center for Safesport and Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies.

The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) limits one-on-one adult/minor interactions and sets standards for training and sport settings that prevent abuse and misconduct. Sport organizations invested in keeping young athletes free of abuse are strongly encouraged to adopt the MAAPP—now required throughout the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement.

How does this affect me or my child?

USA Hockey Locker Room Policy

It is the policy of USA Hockey that all affiliates, districts, leagues and local hockey programs have at least one responsible adult directly monitoring the locker room during all team events to ensure that only participants (coaches and players), approved team personnel and family members are permitted in the locker room and to supervise the conduct in the locker room. Any individual meetings between a minor participant and a coach in a locker room shall require a responsible adult be with the coach.

it is very important that we provide a safe environment for our youth athletes, free from bullying, hazing and other forms of harassment. The best and most effective way to do this is by having locker room monitors present at all times.

WAYHA requires locker room monitoring for all team activities.  We ask that parents volunteer their time as locker room monitors throughout the year to ensure their athletes and others remain safe and that the coaching staff has the time before and after events to prepare and plan.  To be a locker room monitor, you must complete the SafeSport training, which is free of charge.
